RIME Group has been selected one of 2013 Tier 1 University Transportation Centers (UTCs) as a consortium of five universities; Missouri S&T (MO), Rutgers University (NJ), University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (IL), University of Miami (FL) and Southern University (LA).
The grant is $1,414,100 per year for two years, and requires a matching grant from non-Federal grant. This new UTC named RE-CAST (Research on Concrete Applications for Sustainable Transportation) will carry out multi-scale and multi-disciplinary studies to investigate the use of innovative materials and structural systems to enhance the durability and sustainability of the transportation infrastructure.

This grant has opened an avenue of opportunity for collaborations amongst the consortium members and many outside organizations. RE-CAST plans to carry out multi-scale and multi-disciplinary studies to investigate the use of innovative materials and structural systems to enhance the durability and sustainability of the transportation infrastructure. The ultimate goal of the proposed research program is to fast-track the acceptance of these technologies and develop national standards and guidelines for their use for the reconstruction of the nation’s infrastructure for the 21st Century. -Dr. Kamal H.
